The challenge
Fluke Networks relied on its public website to support customers and partners around the world. Shortly after joining the company's web team, it became apparent that a previous migration from Drupal 6 had been performed largely through direct database manipulation rather than Drupal's migration APIs and upgrade mechanisms. Although the migration appeared successful on the surface, it introduced numerous inconsistencies and long-term maintenance challenges throughout the platform.
Before those issues could be fully addressed, Danaher reorganized the business, spinning off much of the Fluke Networks division to NETSCOUT. As part of the transition, the entire San Jose-based web development team departed, leaving me as the organization's primary Drupal developer responsible for supporting and evolving the platform.
The challenge shifted from simply contributing to an existing team to maintaining business continuity while modernizing a globally deployed enterprise website with limited internal development resources.

The solution
I led a systematic effort to stabilize and modernize the platform while supporting the organization's ongoing business needs.
Rather than attempting incremental fixes to the existing migration, I developed strategies to progressively remediate migration issues, clean up legacy content and configuration, and align the platform more closely with Drupal best practices.
Working closely with marketing, product teams, and international stakeholders, I expanded and refined the site's internationalization capabilities to support Fluke Networks' global presence across multiple regions and languages.
I also modernized the development and deployment process by transitioning the organization from an internally hosted Subversion workflow maintained by Tektronix to a Git-based workflow using Pantheon, significantly improving deployment reliability and developer productivity.
Performance optimization became another major initiative. I analyzed bottlenecks throughout the application, optimized image assets, improved page delivery, and implemented numerous enhancements that reduced page load times while improving the overall user experience.
Throughout the engagement, I collaborated with experienced Drupal professionals—including Drupal author Todd Tomlinson—to evaluate architectural decisions and continuously improve the platform.

The outcomes
Successfully maintained and modernized Fluke Networks' global web platform during a period of organizational transition and limited technical staffing. Improved site performance, strengthened multilingual capabilities, modernized deployment practices, and established a more maintainable Drupal platform capable of supporting the organization's ongoing global operations.
Technical highlights
Recovery from Legacy Migration
Developed strategies to identify and remediate issues introduced by a previous database-level migration, improving data consistency and restoring alignment with Drupal best practices.
Global Internationalization
Expanded and refined Drupal's internationalization capabilities to support multilingual content and regional websites serving customers worldwide.
Cloud Hosting Modernization
As Fluke Networks transitioned away from shared Tektronix infrastructure following the NETSCOUT spinoff, I led the migration of the Drupal platform to Pantheon. The move modernized the hosting environment while establishing a more maintainable deployment process for future development.
Version Control Modernization
Migrated the project from Subversion (SVN) to Git, modernizing the development workflow with distributed version control, improved collaboration, and a more reliable foundation for ongoing maintenance and deployment.
Enterprise Platform Stabilization
Provided ongoing architectural guidance and technical leadership to stabilize a mission-critical enterprise web platform during significant organizational transition.
